P. Gerard Barker

P. Gerard Barker belongs to a currently very topical sector of photography as one whom largely uses his smartphone in addition to an SLR camera to hone his craft, before manipulating his images via a variety of apps and other digital processes that have created beautiful photography in his own unique style. His works often challenge the status quo and thus have become a significant part of many of West Contemporary's collaborations and projects to date, namely with Tom Kerridge restaurants, as seen in GQ magazine online. The viewer can often find a visual harmony in Barker’s works due to his fantastic understanding of colour, tone and composition.

All of his works encourage the viewer to look at them just a while longer – rewarded by the realisation that there is always something more to see in them. His inspiration is broad, covering cityscapes and trips abroad to the everyday visuals you might see or walk past in the street. He is particularly skilful at turning both rural and urban landscapes into works of symmetry that seduce the viewer’s eye.

by P.
