Matt Roe
Emerging urban contemporary artist and professional tattoo artist Matt Roe launched his art practice in a series of works entitled ‘Apollo’, merging two of his broad artistic talents. These works juxtapose classical historical mythology with imagery and pictograms borrowed from contemporary urban culture. His works were spotted by West Contemporary founder Liam West and have enjoyed success at the West Contemporary space at Kerridge’s Bar & Grill. Across each of the bone-white resin busts, phrases and symbols from ancient Greek mythology are hand written in black ink by Matt, leaving a new narrative across each one.
Matt was born in Ascot and studied art followed by fashion design at University for the Creative Arts. In 2009, he began his self-taught career as a bespoke tattoo artist with a wide reaching international client list. He currently dedicates half of his time to bespoke tattoo art and the other half to his own distinct style of urban contemporary art, one influencing the designs and creative flair of the other.
