ABOUT THIS PIECE

It’s been such a joy to paint with a much tighter colour pallet, which has made playing with the reflections of different surfaces really complex and challenging. Primarily the beautifully intricate faceted glass, perforated metal spoon and a really elegant, quite chic green glass bottle have been great to layer the very thin greens.

I chose to layer the design on top of a three-dimensional background to allow the lettering to be seen through both the flat design, and also act as if seen through glass.

I’ve loved mixing very delicate glassware, a classic silhouette of the bottle and the shine of the metal against the fire and blue flame - something very polarising of that elegance against the flame, harsh lines and an air of urgency from the melting sugar cube. - Madeline McLean
